ABOUT the Job Seekers Union
David Jones was born in London. He moved to Ireland 23 years ago. He’s had a varied career which includes periods as a management consultant, as a counsellor/therapist, and as a salesman in various industries. More recently he was working as a factory manager.David lost his job in January 2009. He had never been unemployed before.
When he went looking for help, he found nothing was available. So he wrote the self help book ‘Oh no; I’ve lost my job. What am I going to do?’ The book has proven a huge success. In addition to Ireland, versions of the book will soon be available in the UK, America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
David lives in Co. Meath. He has three grown up children.
David had several objectives in setting up The Job Seekers Union:
- To help the unemployed come together to help themselves survive this recession
- To establish a nationwide network of local jobseeker unions and worker co-operatives to provide localised training and generate community based work opportunities
- To lobby the Government and employers on behalf of jobseekers
- To create a positive attitude toward job creation and job retention across all areas of society
- To identify and promote price reduction, cost saving, bartering and discount opportunities that could be of benefit to people on low incomes
- To provide training and coaching courses for members looking for work
- To circulate job opportunities to members
- To identify and promote price reduction, cost saving, bartering and discount opportunities that could be of benefit to people on low incomes
